DETAILED OBJECTIVES

Scientific &Technological objectives
• To develop, upscale and optimize new advanced recycling technologies conceived for a high efficient cost-effective recovery of mineral resources
• To set the scientific-technological basis for the eco-design and fabrication of new green NW and LW concrete recipes containing high levels (at least, 75% by weight) of upgraded C&DW recycled materials
• To develop, adapt and optimize the upscaling of cost-effective sustainable aerogel composite
• To eco-design, develop, characterize and optimize two novel cost-effective energy efficient PCEs containing high levels (>75% by weight) of C&DW recycled materials through the smart combination of concrete, cost-effective aerogel composites and 3D printed plastic sides and shuttering pieces
Economic objectives
• To demonstrate (between TRL5 and TRL6) the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of the VEEP solutions by considering the whole closed-loop product supply chains in 2 diverse climatic scenarios (Hoorn-The Netherlands and Madrid-Spain)
• To quantify the potential economic impact of the diverse VEEP solutions around a closed-loop approach
• To develop innovative business models based on upcycling the EoL concrete waste. These models aim at minimizing the transfer of ownership of materials among the relevant actor, to reduce the value chain and at fostering services providers
• To develop detailed business plans for the technologies and products developed in the VEEP project.
• To finalize exploitation action plans in view of the future commercial deployment of the project’s results
• To promote high replication of the VEEP solution at European level and worldwide
• To catalyse the acceptance and use by the market of the C&DW recycled materials, cost-effective aerogels and new PCEs and ensure compatibility and interoperability with what already exists in the market through standards
Environmental objectives
• To set the basis for higher levels (>75w%) of incorporation of C&DW recycled materials into new sustainable PCEs
• To demonstrate the energy efficiency of the global VEEP circular paradigms through the measurement of energy consumption in every supply chain stage and the subsequent comparison with the existing commercial solutions
• To quantify the potential environmental impact of the diverse VEEP solutions around a closed-loop approach
Social and governance objectives
• To formulate safety recommendations to avoid health and toxicity problems related to the recycling and manipulation of fibrous and silica containing waste materials
• To quantify the noise reduction achieved by the new sustainable PCEs integrating the cost-effective aerogel
• To increase awareness and involvement within the whole social chain (users, students, professionals, authorities and organizations) for those topics concerning efficient use of material building resources and energy efficiency
• To reach out to and train installers of the new VEEP PCEs
• To formulate and channel policy recommendations to relevant authorities in order to influence the regulatory and legislative framework for rendering the introduction of the new practices smoother (political level)
• To foster the creation of green jobs in the recycling industry
